Preamble: S. B. Jain Institute of Technology, Management, and Research, Nagpur is committed to excellence, fairness, accountability, and welfare of the students to make them good citizens and competent professionals. The code of conduct for students and employees is necessary to mark the boundaries of the behavior of everyone on the campus. The students are expected to read, understand, and comply with the institute’s policy of code of conduct mentioned herein to maintain the discipline, dignity, and culture of the college.

- The students shall be present in the classroom or in the laboratory and sit in a decent manner five minutes before the commencement of the class as per the timetable.
- The first period shall always begin with the National Anthem played on the P.A. system when students must stand up in attention wherever they are till the National Anthem ends.
- The student shall not enter nor shall leave the class when the faculty is teaching in the classroom.
- Students shall not be permitted to leave the campus without a gate pass duly signed by the respective Head of the department during teaching hours which will have to be handed over to the security at the gate without which students will not be allowed to leave the campus.
- As far as possible, students shall not ask for a break when the lecture is in progress.
- Loitering, shouting, blowing whistles, making noise, use of abusive language or gestures in the corridors, are strictly prohibited and will be considered as misconduct and attract severe punishment.
- Ragging is considered as a crime under the Anti-ragging Act and shall invite Police action including arrest, fine, and removal from the institute.
- Ragging of fellow or junior students in the form of psychological, physical, or emotional harassment, eve teasing, and use of vulgar and abusive language is not the culture of the institute therefore, such cases will be dealt with seriously and will attract the strict punishment as per Indian Penal Code under the Act.
- Misbehavior, threat, or violence against fellow students or any employee of the institute will be considered as an act of misconduct and shall be liable for punishment.
- A minimum attendance of 75 % is mandatory to appear for semester examinations.
- Participation in co-curricular, extra-curricular activities, games, sports, and intercollege competitions, shall be encouraged but will not be an excuse for lack of attendance.
- In case of a major sickness, or emergency, students shall immediately communicate with the HoD and class teacher with details of the emergency.
- Students shall submit assignments, attend webinars, seminars, and present papers, carry out projects, and case studies, as per the directives given by concerned teachers. Plagiarism is strictly prohibited.
- Appearing for internal examinations shall be compulsory. In case of absence, students shall be marked as absent in the list of internal marks and will be given zero marks.
- Students shall act and comply with the requirements according to the notices displayed on the notice boards from time to time.
- College uniform is an integral part of the code of conduct without which entry inside the college premises will not be allowed. Shoes and ties are a must for boys and girls except on the occasions on which casual dress is allowed. Wearing slippers/chappals should be strictly avoided.
- Students must attend the college functions in the approved uniform of the college.
- Chewing gum, tobacco, betel, smoking, narcotics, or alcohol is strictly prohibited.
- Wearing dresses against the culture of the institute is strictly prohibited.
- Any act of disrespect, rude, and arrogant behavior with anyone in the institute shall be dealt with strictly.
- Students will not fall prey to any negative propaganda, rumors, and vicious campaigning. They will always uphold the spirit of education and brotherhood with each other.
- Political activity in any form is not permitted on the college campus. Unauthorized meetings, processions, and unauthorized fund collections are forbidden within or outside the college.
- Use of mobile phones shall be strictly prohibited in classrooms, laboratories, libraries, computer centers, exam halls, etc. Ringing of mobile phones shall invite immediate action of confiscating the mobile phone immediately.
- Misbehavior, habitual late coming, disobedience, absenteeism, and using unfair means in the examination shall be considered to be serious offenses and shall invite punitive action.
- Students should wear their I-card every day and shall produce it as and when demanded by the college authorities or by security staff.
- Students should strictly follow the rules and regulations of the department, library, and laboratories.
- Tearing of pages or writing on library books will be viewed as an act of misconduct.
- Theft or willful damage caused to institute property is a serious offense. The student will not only have to compensate for the damage but will also face disciplinary action.
- Writing slogans, comments, or pasting handbills, printouts, etc. on the desk or on the walls, or on cupboards is not permitted.
- Burning of firecrackers in the college is not permitted.
- Students should keep their classroom tidy and switch off lights and fans when not required.
- Viewing undesirable websites on campus shall be dealt with very strictly.
- Students shall sit starting from the front benches. Leaving the front benches empty and sitting on the back benches shall be considered willful misbehavior.
- During internal examinations, students are not allowed to leave the hall within one hour from the beginning of the exam, and students have to occupy their seats10 minutes before the commencement of the examination.
- Any violation of the above rules will be dealt with seriously, including being placed on the blacklist.
- Students of the institute shall not invite friends from other institutions or outsiders to the college, particularly during college functions.
- Taking out rallies within the campus is prohibited.
- Students coming to the college by two-wheelers must have valid driving licenses and must wear helmets.
- Riding with more than one pillion rider shall be prohibited. Two-wheelers should be parked in systematic order at the parking place specified.
- Punishment can be any of the following for prohibited behavior:
- First warning to students and parents
- Tendering written apology with a commitment not to repeat.
- Counseling to students and parents
- Second warning
- Imposing fines from Rs. 500 to Rs. 5000
- Forfeiting tools used in violating the code of conduct
- Non-evaluation of the course for malpractice used in the examination
- Suspension from the class for a specific period
- Suspension of privileges such as the use of the library, computer center, participation in inter-collegiate competition
- Making students ineligible for placement assistance
- Rustication from the Institute
The Principal reserves the right to impose any punishment that he feels fit
Preamble: Every person who adopts teaching as a profession is expected to follow a certain code of conduct in accordance with the ideals, values, ethics, and social obligations of the profession. Therefore, teachers of the institute are required to follow the following guidelines of the code of conduct for teachers.

- The teachers should uphold the vision and mission of the College, and work for the holistic development of the students.
- Teachers shall discharge duties diligently to match with academic standards and performance norms laid down by controlling authorities.
- Teachers shall be punctual, sincere, and regular in their approach and devote their time and efforts to the progress of the institute.
- The teachers will not leave the premises without making an entry in the moment register which is available in the principal’s cabin otherwise leaving the campus without making an entry in the movement register will be treated as misconduct and liable for punitive action.
- The teachers hold the responsibility of maintaining the general discipline of the campus, and anything that is seen as inappropriate should be reported to the Principal.
- Teachers should adhere to the responsible pattern of conduct and behave in a manner consistent with the dignity of the profession and the expectations of the community.
- Drinking alcoholic products, smoking or chewing tobacco or related products on the premises is strictly prohibited.
- A teacher is constantly under the scrutiny of his/her students and society at large. Therefore, every teacher should see that there is no incompatibility between his/her precepts and practices.
- Teachers should make professional growth continuously through study and research.
- Honesty should not be compromised in research. Plagiarism is an evil that cannot be accepted at any cost. The aim should be to improve the quality of research.
- Teachers should express free and frank opinions by participating in professional meetings, seminars, conferences, etc. towards the contribution of knowledge.
- Teachers should have active membership of professional organizations and strive to improve education and profession through them.
- Teachers should regularly update his/her knowledge by attending FDPs and STTPs and keep pace with the advent of technology and acquaint themselves with recent methodologies and other applications.
- Developing new teaching strategies and curriculum as well as planning for an upgraded academic system should be an integral part of his/her professional duties.
- Teachers should cooperate and assist in carrying out functions relating to the educational responsibilities of the College and the University such as: assisting in the admission process, advising and counseling students as well as assisting in the conduct of University and College examinations, including supervision, invigilation, and evaluation.
- Teachers should deal with the students impartially regardless of their religion, caste, political, economic, social and physical characteristics.
- Teachers shall not incite, provoke, or instigate students or staff against the College Management and disrupt the academic activities of the college.
- No teacher shall act or degrade, harass, or insult any person for any reason whatsoever or act in a manner unbecoming of a teacher’s profession.
- No teacher shall associate with any political party or take part in any other organization actively that is not in line with the duties and ethics of the teaching profession.
- Teachers shall not engage in any unlawful activity.
- No teacher shall accept any honorarium or paid assignment given by an external agency without prior permission of the College Management.
- Teachers shall not participate in any strike or demonstration nor indulge in any criticism of College Management policy or of the Government for any reason whatsoever.
- Teachers should respect the rights and dignity of the student in expressing his/ her opinion.
- Teachers should encourage students to improve their attainments, develop their personalities, and at the same time contribute to community welfare.
- The foremost aim of the teaching profession is to educate. Teachers should make themselves available to the students even beyond their class hours and help and guide students without any remuneration or reward.
- The teacher’s aim should be to inspire students to generate more interest and develop a sense of inquiry in the pursuit of knowledge.
- Teachers should maintain contact with the guardians of their students, send reports of their performance to the guardians whenever necessary, and meet the guardians in meetings convened for the purpose of mutual exchange of ideas and for the benefit of the institution.
- Teachers should refrain from undertaking any other employment and commitment including private tuition and coaching classes which are likely to interfere with their professional responsibilities.
- Teachers should co-operate with the authorities for the betterment of the institutions keeping in view the interest and in conformity with the dignity of the profession.
- Teachers should refrain from availing themselves of leave except on unavoidable grounds and as far as practicable with prior intimation, keeping in view their particular responsibility for the completion of the academic schedule.
- Teachers should be respectful and cooperative towards their colleagues, assisting them and sharing their responsibilities in a collaborative manner.
- Teachers should guide and help junior colleagues and those in training and induction in all possible ways.
- Teachers should avoid making derogatory statements about colleagues and Management.
- Teachers should treat the non-teaching staff as colleagues and equal partners in a cooperative undertaking.
- Teachers should recognize that education is a public service and strive to keep the public informed of the educational programs that are being provided.
- Teachers should work to improve education in the community and strengthen the community’s moral and intellectual life.
- Teachers should refrain from taking part in subscribing to or assisting in any way activities that tend to promote feelings of hatred or enmity among different communities, religions, or linguistic groups and should actively work for National Integration.
- It is the collective responsibility of the entire teaching faculty to work in a team to achieve the institutional core values and targets set by the Management from time to time.
- The teacher must respect the confidentiality of all information regarding exam affairs as well as matters dealing with colleagues and students unless legally or legitimately demanded.
Non-teaching staff is required to abide by the rules and regulations framed here under:
- The non-teaching staff must maintain absolute integrity and show devotion to duty and refrain from such activities which will tarnish the reputation of the institute.
- The non-teaching staff shall cooperate with the authorities for the betterment of the institution keeping in view the interest and in conformity with the dignity of the profession.
- The prior intimation to the controlling officer is required (at least a day in advance) while availing any leave.
- The non-teaching staff shall maintain their professional knowledge & skills and update himself/ herself professionally for the proper discharge of duties assigned to him/her.
- The non-teaching staff shall extend all courtesy and attention to the people with whom he/ she has to deal in connection with his official duties.
- The non-teaching staff shall not entertain any outside for any work directly but should advise him/ her to contact the Principal or Admin department depending upon the nature of work.
- The non-teaching staff often has access to confidential information regarding examination matters and other matters relating to other staff, through official records. It is expected that they respect the confidentiality of such matters.
- The non-teaching staff shall treat all students without discrimination on the basis of race, religion, caste, language, or gender.
- Non-teaching staff assigned to the laboratories should keep the labs clean, maintain the equipment properly, and help the teacher during practical classes.
- The non-teaching staff shall not come to duty intoxicated or drink alcohol on college premises.
- The behavior of any non-teaching staff with male and female students, and fellow employees shall be modest.
- The non-teaching staff shall refrain from verbal, non-verbal and/or physical misconduct of a sexual nature in their interactions with students and other college staff. The college has a zero-tolerance policy towards sexual harassment.
- Apart from the routine work, service of the non-teaching staff may be required for the conduct of examinations of affiliating Universities.
- The non-teaching staff shall take lunch breaks according to the laid down timing. Employees should report to duties on time after the break.
- The non-teaching staff will adhere strictly to the laws and regulations of the college.
